Exercise 10: Focal lengths and different viewpoints

The object of this exercise was to explore the different viewpoints obtained from using different focal lengths from the same and different viewpoints.  e.g, if you change the focal length and change the view point it can make a completely different perspective.  The course notes suggested a large difference in focal lengths- I have a zoom lens with a focal range of 24-105mm.

I wanted to combine my two passions of photography and bikes.  In hindsight I don't think this was the correct image to use.  The course notes suggested a subject with some depth - a building or a person in a setting- this was neither!

Photograph 1:

I shot this image of my bike in my garden with hope that the garden might give the image some depth.

Photograph 2:

I then changed the focal length to 24mm and moved forward until I had a similar perspective and took the second photograph.  Although I don't think this was the correct subject to use I do think it shows the point how changing both the position the photograph is taken from and the focal length can make a difference to the composition and hence the 'feeling' of the final image.
